How to enter GTA 5 cheats

There are three ways to activate GTA 5 cheats, and they all give exactly the same result. Pick the one that is easiest for you.

1. Button codes (PlayStation and Xbox): during normal gameplay — not in the pause menu — press the buttons in order. You have a few seconds between presses, so don’t rush. A small “Cheat activated” message appears at the top-left of the screen.
2. Phone numbers (all platforms): press Up on the d-pad (or the phone key on PC) to take out your phone, open the keypad and dial the number, then press call. This is the easiest method on a controller.
3. PC console: press the ~ (tilde) key, type the code word, such as PAINKILLER, and press Enter.

Once you dial a cheat on the phone, it is saved in the phone’s Cheats menu, so you can switch it on again later without dialling.

All GTA 5 cheats for PS5 and PS4

On PlayStation, “O” is the Circle button. These are the same on PS5 and PS4 (and on PS3).

All GTA 5 cheats for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One

The Xbox codes use the same order as PlayStation with the matching Xbox buttons. They also work on Xbox 360.

Open the console with ~, type the word and press Enter. Codes are not case-sensitive.

GTA 5 cheat phone numbers

These numbers work on every platform. Dial them from Michael’s, Franklin’s or Trevor’s phone. Dashes are only there to make them easier to read — you type the digits.

The best GTA 5 cheats to try first

With 34 cheats it is hard to know where to start. These are the ones most players use, and why.

Fun GTA 5 cheat combos

Some cheats are much better together. Try these combinations for instant fun:

• 💥 Superhero mode: PAINKILLER + HOTHANDS + HOPTOIT. You can’t be hurt, your punches explode and you jump over cars.
• 🌙 Moon walk: FLOATER + SKYFALL. Fall from the sky in low gravity and drift slowly over Los Santos.
• 🎯 Action movie: DEADEYE + INCENDIARY. Slow-motion aiming with flaming bullets looks amazing in a shootout.
• 🚗 Drift party: SNOWDAY + COMET. Slippery roads plus a fast sports car turn every corner into a drift.

Is there a money cheat in GTA 5?

No. There has never been a money cheat in GTA 5 story mode on any platform, and any website or video claiming one is fake (or is a mod). Rockstar left money out on purpose because the story’s heists and stock market are built around earning cash. The good news: you can still become a billionaire legally — our GTA 5 money guide shows exactly how to use Lester’s assassination missions and the stock market.

Cheats that need an unlock

Three vehicle cheats — the Duke O’Death, the Dodo seaplane and the Kraken submarine — only work if those vehicles have been unlocked on your account. They were originally rewards for returning players who linked an older save or Rockstar Games Social Club account. If they don’t spawn for you, that’s why. They also have no button code on consoles — you must use the phone.

Why isn’t my GTA 5 cheat working?

If nothing happens when you enter a code, run through this checklist:

• ✅ Are you in a mission with a phone restriction? Some missions block the phone and cheats. Finish or fail the mission first.
• ✅ Did you press the buttons too slowly? Try again a little faster, and make sure the game isn’t paused.
• ✅ Did you add the “1-999” at the start of a phone number? Every phone cheat begins with 1-999.
• ✅ Is it a vehicle cheat? Vehicles won’t spawn while you are indoors or in some tight spaces. Go outside onto a road.
• ✅ Are you in GTA Online? Cheats only work in story mode.

Do GTA 5 cheats disable trophies and achievements?

Yes, but only for the current session. When a cheat is used, trophies and achievements are switched off until you load a save. Your existing save file is not damaged, and you can still finish the story normally. The safest routine is: save in slot 1, play with cheats, then reload slot 1 when you want to go back to normal play.

Do GTA 5 cheats work on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S?

Yes. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions use the same codes as PS4 and Xbox One, and the phone numbers are identical across all platforms. The PC Enhanced edition also uses the same console codes. If you play on an older console, the PS3 and Xbox 360 button codes are the same too.

GTA 5 cheats by category

It helps to think of the 34 GTA 5 cheats in four groups. Once you know the groups, finding the right code is quick.

Player cheats

These change Michael, Franklin or Trevor directly: max health and armor, five minutes of invincibility, a full special ability bar, faster running and swimming, super jumps, drunk mode, a parachute and Skyfall. They are the most useful cheats for getting through a hard fight or just messing around in free roam. Note that invincibility doesn’t protect you from everything — falling into deep water while unable to swim out, or certain scripted mission deaths, can still end your run.

Weapon cheats

TOOLUP gives every weapon your character has unlocked so far, plus ammo. The others change how weapons behave: explosive bullets, flaming bullets, explosive punches and slow-motion aiming. Slow-motion aiming (DEADEYE) can be entered up to three times for stronger slow motion, and entering it a fourth time switches it off.

Vehicle cheats

Fifteen cheats spawn vehicles: the Buzzard attack helicopter, three planes, sports cars like the Comet and Rapid GT, motorbikes, a BMX, a limo, a garbage truck, a golf cart and — if unlocked — the Duke O’Death, Dodo and Kraken. Vehicles appear right next to you, so stand somewhere open.

World cheats

These change the whole game world: moon gravity, slippery roads, changing weather and three levels of slow motion. They are perfect for stunts and screenshots. Enter them again to switch them off.

GTA 5 cheats on every version of the game

GTA 5 has been released on more platforms than almost any other game, and the cheats have stayed the same the whole time:

Because the codes never changed, any GTA 5 cheat list you find for PS4 also works on PS5, and any PC code works in both the Legacy and Enhanced PC versions.

Will cheats ruin my GTA 5 save?

No. GTA 5 cheats don’t permanently change your save file. They switch off trophies and achievements only until you load a save again, and effects like invincibility or slow motion end on their own or when you switch characters. The only thing to watch out for is saving while a mission is in a strange state — for example, after spawning a vehicle that blocks a mission marker. If something looks broken, reload your last save. That’s why we recommend keeping one clean save slot just for normal play.

Tips for using cheats in GTA 5

A few habits make cheating smoother and stop you from losing progress:

• 📱 Use the phone list. After you dial a number once, open the phone’s Cheats app to reuse it in two taps.
• ⏱️ Watch the timer. Invincibility lasts about five minutes. Re-enter it when the icon disappears.
• 🚓 Lower your stars before saving. Use LAWYERUP to clear a wanted level before heading to a safehouse.
• 🧭 Spawn vehicles on open roads. Planes need a runway, so use FLYSPRAY or BARNSTORM at the airport or on a long straight road.
